ECU's Adrienne Millican Is Tied For 28th At NCAA East Regional
05/06/2004

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fl – East Carolina women's golfer Adrienne Millican posted a four-over 76 during the first round of the Women's NCAA East Regional on Thursday. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,165-yard Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort.

Millican got off to a rough start as she bogeyed three of the first seven holes and recorded a three-over par 38 after the front nine. At the turn, she birdied the par-5 tenth, before recording a double-bogey at 11 and bogeys at 12 and 13. Millican was able to get two strokes back, when she recorded consecutive birdies on 16 and 17 to finish the back nine at one-over par, 38.

North Carolina's Meaghan Francella leads the tournament after 18-holes after recording a three-under par 69. She holds a one-stroke lead over Tulane's Liliana Alvarez and Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin.

In the team portion of the regional, Duke (286) holds a commanding 11 shot advantage over UNLV (297), while Oklahoma State sits in third place after posting a score of 298.

"Adrienne didn't seem to have her best stuff early going," said ECU head golf coach Kevin Williams. "The greens were playing extremely difficult today and it took her a while to become comfortable. She made birdies on two of the last three holes, and seemed to find her rhythm."

Millican is participating in the NCAA East Regional as an individual and currently sits four strokes out of tenth place. Second round action begins Friday morning followed by 18-holes on Saturday.

The top eight teams and the two low individuals, that are not on the top eight, will advance to the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Alabama on May 18-20.
