Lady Pirate Golfers Sit Tied For 14th At NCAA East Regional Championships
05/06/2005 GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The East Carolina women's golf team completed first and second round action at the 2005 NCAA East Regional Championships Friday with a 36-hole score of 614 (309-305) at the par-70, 6,023-yard University of Florida Golf Course. The Pirates (85-57-3) are tied for 14th with 18-holes remaining and are 15 strokes out of eighth place. Junior Heidi Helliesen (Droebak, Norway) posted a two-round score of 150 (75-75) and is tied for 32nd. Adrienne Millican (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) is tied for 38th (76-75=151) and freshman Emelie Lind (Kungsangen, Sweden) is one stroke back of Millican tied for 47th (77-75=152). University of Virginia's Leah Wigger (137) hold a one-stroke lead over Furman's Jenny Suh (138) heading into final round play on Saturday. Liliana Alvarez (141) of Tulane sits in third while five golfers are tied for fourth at 142. Ohio State posted a second round score of 280 and has a 10-stroke lead over second place Duke (575) heading into the final 18-holes. Furman (582) is in third, while Pepperdine and Conference USA foe Tulane are tied for fourth at 585. A total of 324 participants have been selected for the regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championship final, held on May 17-20. Eight of 21 teams and two individuals will advance from each region. The NCAA final will be held at the Sunriver Resort on the Meadows Course in Sunriver, Ore., as Oregon State and Sunriver Resort will serve as hosts.
