OPELIKA, AL -- East Carolina women's golfer Adrienne Millican carded a final round three-under par 69 on Friday at the 2004 Women's NCAA Golf Championships. The tournament was held at the par-72, 6,215-yard Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, AL.

After the final round action was completed Saturday, Millican finished in a tie for 33rd out of 125 golfers that participated in the tournament.

Millican (72-77-77-69=295), who started play on the back nine, jumped out of the gates early after recording an eagle on the par-5, 12th hole. The next hole she gave one stroke back with a bogey before posting a birdie on the 15th to finish with a two-under 34. On the front nine, Millican posted three birdies and two bogies for a final round score of 69.

"Adrienne came out today and played some of her best golf of the year," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "She represented the university and the program with the up most class. I am honored to have coached her this season and I am really excited about what she will bring to the program as a senior next year. To finish in the top-40 is indicative of how she has played all year."

Millican became the first Pirate golfer, male or female in the modern era, to participate in the NCAA Championships. Former Pirate standout Gail Sykes participated in the NAIA Championships in the late 1960's and was named to the first women's golfers All American team in 1969.
