NORMAN, Okla. --- The East Carolina men's golf team has been selected as one of six first-time participants in the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship this season announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The 2012 event is set to take place March 18-20 at the Concession Golf Club in Sarasota, Fla.

Arkansas, Kennesaw State, Liberty, UNC Wilmington and USF, the host school for the event, will also be making their first appearance. Arizona State, California, Chattanooga, Colorado State, Duke, Indiana, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Tennessee and Washington State round out the field.

Duke is the defending champion, posting a 4-1 win over Illinois in 2011 at the Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga. Oklahoma State is the only two-time winner in the event's history (2004 and 2006).

The Concession Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course designed in association with Tony Jacklin, was named "Best New Private Course of 2006" by Golf Digest magazine. It holds one of the highest Course and Slope Ratings by the United States Golf Association. The 7,470-yard, par 72 layout, is set on 520 acres of ruggedly pristine land dotted with massive oaks and majestic pines. It runs three miles from tip to tip.

East Carolina opens its 2011-12 season with the GolfWeek Team Challenge on Sept. 11-13, in Murrell's Inlet, S.C.
