Pirate Golfers Finish First in Round One of Unlimited Potential
09/06/2002 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The East Carolina University women's golf team finished first after round one of the Unlimited Potential/Baytree Classic sponsored by the College of Charleston. Pirate Jessica Krasny currently sits alone atop the leader board having shot even par in the opening round. The tournament is being played at the 72 par, 5,873 yard Bay Tree Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Krasny shot an even 36 on both the front and back nine to earn her solo spot at the top of the tournament. Adrienne Millican, along with four other players sits in second place having shot a 73 on the day. Margaret Mitchell sits in the 19th spot with a score of 77. As a team, the Pirates shot 301 on the day, 13 over par. East Carolina holds a minuscule lead over UNC Wilmington, which finished with a total of 303 on day one. Arkansas Little Rock sits in third with 304. "I'm proud of the way we played today," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "The first place finish shows the caliber of this team. We hung in there, and played really well and it's nice to have the lead after the first day. We were in this same position last year after round one, and hopefully this time we will be able to hold on and close the deal." The Pirates finished second in last year's Unlimited Potential Bay Tree Classic. Round two of the tournament will be held tomorrow on the same course.
