Men's Golf Finishes 10th At Raines Development Intercollegiate

FLORENCE, S.C. — The East Carolina men's golf team posted a final round 313 and slipped to tenth place at the 20th annual Raines Development Intercollegiate Group. The tournament was being held at the par-72, 7,062-yard CCSC Course.

Virginia Commonwealth, who was seventh after the first day of competition, shot a final round 282 to take home the team championship with a score of 891, five strokes ahead of Coastal Carolina (896). Charleston Southern, the first day leaders, finished tied for third with Davidson College (907) and Charlotte (909) rounded out the top five.

Individually for the Pirates (13-15-0), freshman Ryan Solan recorded his first career top-20 finish after a 54-hole score of 226, for a tie for 17th. Fellow freshman Martin Nicholls finished four shots (230) behind Solan for 32nd place.

The Pirates were one of 13 teams participating in this year's tournament along with: Belmont Abbey College, Campbell, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Davidson College, East Carolina, Francis Marion, Georgia College & State University, Jacksonville University, Kennesaw State University, Old Dominion University, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

ECU will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 27 when they travel to Newport, RI to participate in the Adams Cup of Newport, which is hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
