Lady Pirates Golf Team Wins Louisville Cardinal Cup
09/22/2003 Simpsonville, Ky. -- The East Carolina women's golf team shot a final round 305 to capture the Cardinal Cup Tournament for the second consecutive year. The tournament, which was hosted by fellow Conference USA member Louisville, was being played at the par-72, 6,159-yard Cardinal Club in Simpsonville, Ky. The Pirates (19-7) finished the tournament with a score of 926 (315-306-305), 17 shots ahead of the second place Louisville (943) for its first win of the season. Murray State finished two shots behind Louisville for third place in a field of 11 teams. Three Lady Pirates finished in the top 10, and all five Lady Pirates finished in the top 17 of the tournament. Junior Adrienne Millican recorded her second straight top 11 placement with a 54-hole score of 224 (75-76-73) to take second place this weekend. Fellow Pirate Maragret Mitchell finished in fifth with two-day total of 228. Pirate freshman, Jessica Hauser, made her first collegiate start at the tournament and recorded a 237 (82-78-77) to claim her first ever top 10 finish. Louisville's Meghan Little took home the individual championship shooting a three-over par 219 for 54 holes. Georgia State's Lisbeth Meincke finished third with a two-day total of 225. "I am proud of the way we competed in this tournament," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "With all the bad weather this week in Greenville, we were unable to practice at all and this win shows the talent that we have on the team this year. This was a great way to come back from a disappointing loss last week and beating Louisville on their own course shows what this team is capable of." ECU will be back in action Oct. 3-5, when they travel to Lexington, Ky., to compete in the Wildcat Invitational. Top Pirate Finishes Top Individual Finishes Top Team Finishes
