NEWPORT, R.I. - The East Carolina men's golf team finished 15th at the 12th-annual Adams Cup of Newport Cleveland Golf Classic. The tournament was being played at the par-72, 7,244-yard Newport National Golf Club.

The Pirates (13-18) were led by David Smith who posted a 54-hole score of 239 (82-80-77) and placed tied for 51st. Junior Philip Reale, II (81-85-75) and freshman Markus Leandersson (83-79-79) finished tied for 59th with tournament score of 241.

Texas A&M won the team championship, outdistancing second-place North Carolina by five strokes, third-place South Carolina-Aiken by 12, and host school URI by 23.

North Carolina junior Martin Ureta won the individual title, shooting a two-over par 216 over three rounds, two strokes ahead of runner up Bronson Burgoon, a junior from Texas A&M. The pair shared the low round of the tournament as both carded a three-under par 69 in the final round.

ECU will be back in action on Monday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Richmond, Va. to participate in the VCU Invitational.
