HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina men's golf team finished tied for ninth after posting a final round 306 at the 49er Collegiate Classic. The tournament was being played at the par-72, 7,028-yard Skybrook Golf Club in Huntersville, N.C.

The Pirates (14-29-2) were one of 12 teams participating in the two-day 54-hole tournament.

Indiana University ran away with the tournament championship after posting a final round 279 and final score of 842, to finish six strokes ahead of second place Xavier 848 (275-283-290). Furman (856) finished the tournament 14 strokes off the lead, claiming third place.

Indiana's Jeff Overton won the individual title with a tournament score of 199, 17-under par. Three golfers finished tied for second as Matt Davidson (Furman), Matt Mincer (Charlotte), and John Streibich (Xavier) posted a final score of 208.

ECU's Jeff Crowe struggled in the final round as he was unable to continue his solid play from the first two rounds, after posting a six-over 78, which tied him for 21st place. Junior Brandon Pace finished tied for 30th, while Jason Harris' 222 (68-75-79) placed him in a tie for 36th.

"We played two solid rounds of golf in this tournament," said. ECU head coach Kevin Williams. " Today however, we struggled to put together a sold round. The good thing is we have a couple of weeks to prepare for our tournament and work on some things individually."

The Pirates will return to action on Oct. 20 when they host the Pirate Fall Intercollegiate at Bradford Creek in Greenville, N.C.
