Lady Pirates Hold On To Lead In Fall Intercollegiate
10/14/2002 GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina University women's golf team is maintained its first place lead from the morning round after finishing the second round of play in the Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate. The tournament is being held at the par-71, 5,850-yard Greenville Country Club under cool and windy conditions. Sixteen teams are participating in the second annual fall tournament hosted by East Carolina. The Pirates lead all teams after the second round with a score of 603 (296-307). Western Carolina closed in on the Pirates in the second round, and are now just eight strokes behind East Carolina. The top five is rounded out by Xavier, Augusta State, and James Madison. Rebecca Twiner of Western Carolina led after the morning round with a score of 69. She shot 76 in the afternoon for a two round score of 145. She now shares her first place position with two other golfers - East Carolina's Margaret Mitchell (72-73-145) and Augusta State's Leah Hart (73-72-145). Mitchell moved up one spot from second place, and Hart jumped up from third place. Mitchell leads the Lady Pirates with her two round score of 145. Heidi Hellieson was the second best finisher at 153 (74-79) in 10th place, moving up from the 17th place finish in the morning round. The Pirates placed six golfers, including Alyssa Hayes who is playing individually, in the top 20. The third and final round of the Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate will be held tomorrow at the Greenville Country Club with tee times beginning at 8:00 a.m.
