Lady Pirates In Third After First Round of Edwin Watts Intercollegiate
11/04/2003 KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- The East Carolina women's golf team is currently in third place after 18-holes at the Edwin Watts/Palmetto Intercollegiate, after posting a score of 304. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 5,909-yard Oak Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island, in South Carolina. The Pirates (57-17-1) are just three strokes behind the leader Notre Dame, who fired a 13-over 301 on Monday. Sitting in second place, two shots behind the Fighting Irish, is Maryland at 303. Individually, the Lady Pirates have two golfers in the top-20 after round one. Junior Adrienne Millican posted an even-par round (72) and sits in a tie for second place with two other individuals. Sophomore Pirate Jamie Quinn sits in a tie for 17th, after a first-round score of 76, four-over par. Millican is currently four strokes off the lead behind College of Charleston's Sapna Patel, who posted a 68, a school record, during round one. Fellow Pirates Jessica Krasny and Margaret Mitchell are still in the hunt for the individual championship, as they start round two action Tuesday morning. Krasny is currently in a tie for 24th, while Mitchell is tied for 36th after posting a 79. ECU will be playing the remainder of the tournament short handed, as Alyssa Hayes withdrew from competition due to illness. "I am please with the teams start," said ECU head coach Kevin Williams. "To be three strokes behind the leaders with only four golfers, says a lot about our teams character. I thought Adrienne played extremely well today. Going into the final day, I think that we are sitting in a good position to make a run at the title." Second round action will continue Tuesday morning at 8:08 am, with the final round to follow immediately after the second. Top Pirate Finishes Top Individual Finishes Top Team Finishes
