ECU Swimming, Diving Come Up Short In C-USA Finals

  • HOUSTON, TEXAS - East Carolina's women's Swimming and Diving team finished third in the final day of competition at the Conference USA Women's Swimming and Diving Championship Saturday. The ECU men also finished third in the Men's Invitaional.

    The ECU women were lead by senior Diane Parker who was named Swimmer of the Meet for the third consecutive year. Parker finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:19.53), her last individual event before the NCAA Championships. The 400 freestyle relay team led by Parker, Courtney Felker, Adrienne Williams, and Kate Gordon placed third and broke yet another school record with a time of 3:27.04.

    In other women's action, freshman Megan Pulaski (Greenville, N.C.) who finished in secon-place in the 1,650 freestyle (17:02.87) also set an ECU record with her performance. Sophomore Gordon edged out her competition finishing in second-place in the 200 butterfly (2:02.12). Sara Black swam a season-best 2:04.73 in the 200 backstroke while finishing in sixth-place.

    Diver Christie Icenhower was named Freshman Diver of the Year and finished sixth in the Platform event (268.60). For the men, freshman Ryan Hunt came in fourth-place in the Platform event scoring 269.40 points, followed by Tarver Mygatt (5th), and Greg Detwiler (6th).

    In men's action, freshman Josh Barthlow set an ECU record in the 200 backstroke (1:48.44). Senior Casey Cronin came in fourth-place in the 200 breaststroke finishing in 2:04.59. Sophomore John Cameron finished sixth in the 1,650 freestyle (16:33.61). Andrew Dragunas swam a season-best 1:51.50 in the 200 butterfly, which was good enough for fifth-place.
