GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's tennis team opened its 2014 home schedule with a 6-1 victory over visiting Longwood Friday at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Pirates (2-1) won the doubles point and then took five of the six singles matches in the win.
Colin Roller and Jared Morris cruised to a 6-2 win over Steed Johnson and Warren Bryan at the No. 2 doubles position, as did Miles Holvoet and Ross Nigro at the No. 3 flight, defeating Bharani Sankar and James Fudge, 6-3. Patriek Wolterbeek and Nicolas Soriano completed the sweep with a 6-5 win over Dan Elston and Edward Becker at the No. 1 position.
In singles action, ECU won all five of its matches in straight sets. Soriano topped Elston at the No. 1 position (6-3, 6-4) with Lehfeldt taking down Becker at No. 2 (6-3, 6-2). Damien Brenard quickly disposed of Bryan 6-2, 6-0 as Roller finished off Sankar in similar fashion (6-1, 6-0). Blake Gregory recorded his first win of the season at No. 6, defeating Fudge 6-2, 6-1.
Longwood earned its point at the No. 3 position as Johnson outlasted Mario Martinez in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-5 (4)).
The Pirates return to action Sunday at 11 a.m. as they host Kennesaw State.
