Pirates Bow To Bucs 4-0 In Neutral Site Matchup
Jan. 29, 2006
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - East Tennessee State took two of three doubles matches and used three singles victories to secure a 4-0 non-conference, neutral site win over East Carolina at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center Sunday. After winning the doubles point thanks to a pair of 8-4 triumphs by the Bucs' tandems of Felix Insurraulde/Lisandro Picardo and Enrique Olivares/Luis Sebastian Serrano, ETSU quickly gained control of the match by capturing the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles events. Collegiate tennis rules dictate a neutral site match can be halted once a team clinches its fourth victory in a seven-point scoring system. The Bucs (4-2) picked up singles wins from Insurraulde (6-3, 6-3 over Henrique Viana) at No. 2, Olivares (6-1, 6-3 against Ricardo Barone) at No. 3 and Picardo, who pulled away from ECU senior Nick Rose by scores of 7-6 (5), 6-3. The Pirates (3-2) recorded their only victory at the top doubles slot as Barone and Viana dispatched ETSU's team of Juan Crosa and Oscar Posada 8-5. The No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, featuring ECU's Aleksey Kochetov, Brian Walters and Britton Steele, were either suspended or not played. ECU will now prepare for its home opener, scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 2 at 2:00 p.m., against Mount Olive. EAST TENNESSEE STATE 4, EAST CAROLINA 0
