Pirates Sweep Doubleheader Against Navy And Mount Olive

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's tennis team extended its current winning streak to six matches after sweeping a doubleheader of matches Sunday at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center. ECU swept Mount Olive, 7-0, following a 5-2 victory over Navy to improve to 6-1 on the season.
After dropping the doubles point to Navy, ECU rallied to win five singles in its opening match of the day. Senior Joran Vliegen, who is ranked 23rd nationally in singles, won a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Thomas Pecor at No. 1, Mario Martinez rallied after dropping the first set of his No. 3 singles match against Calvin Mark to win, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, Damien Brenard posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Blake Daniel and No. 4 and Fredric Lehfeldt clinched the team win for the Pirates with his 6-2, 6-1 victory over Krishna Jana at No. 5.
In the second half of the doubleheader, ECU earned an easy victory over Mount Olive, 7-0. The Pirates won doubles matches at No. 1 and 3 to claim the first point. In singles, the Pirates captured five matches in straight sets. Blake Gregory posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Matt Finnerty on court two, Martinez won 6-4, 6-0 over Henric Falkenberg at No. 3 with Jared Morris defeated Stanley Roffe 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4. Freshman Miles Holvoet claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Matheus Ribiero on court five and Ross Nigro posted an identical win over Lautaro Vazquz at No. 6. Freshman Fredric Lehfeldt won his opening set over Edgar Bub 6-4, and then captured the match 10-1 in third set on the top court.
ECU returns to the court Friday, Feb. 7, against Georgia Southern. The match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center.
