ECU Falls To N.C. State 7-0

RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina State men's tennis squad swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles matches in straight sets to secure a 7-0 victory and hand East Carolina its first loss of the season. In singles play, Horvath led off in the No.1 position in singles winning the first set but could not maintain momentum and dropped the next two sets (6-1). Skalmerud kept the fist set in the No.2 position close 7-6 but dropped the second (6-2). NCSU went on to clinch the win as Rob Lowe bested Whitwell (6-2, 7-6). At the No. 4 flight Dave Thomas passed freshman Massimo Mannino in straight sets 6-1. Fernando Banos finished up the match by defeating Oakley. With the win, the Wolfpack improved to 4-1 on the season while the Pirates fell to 3-1. ECU will now prepare for its fifth-straight road match by traveling to Appalachian State Saturday. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
