Pirate Tennis Sweeps Liberty 7-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's tennis squad swept six matches and earned the doubles point to record a convincing 7-0 non-conference victory over Liberty Thursday afternoon.
The win improved the Pirates' dual match record to 2-3 while Liberty dropped to 1-1.
ECU's top-seeded singles player, Aleksey Kochetov, set the tone by cruising to a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Sebastian Pena. Jaroslav Horvath won easily in the No. 2 position against Chad Simpson (6-3, 6-4). The No. 3 seed, Henrique Viana, defeated Jaroslav Trojan (6-4, 6-1), while Henrik Skalmerud beat Leandro Schujman (6-0, 3-0) in the No. 4 position, Bryan Oakley got past Rafael Riso in three sets (6-2, 2-6, 6-1) at No. 5 and Stephen Whitwell defeated Juan Reyes (6-0, 6-0) in the No. 6 slot.
In doubles competition, Viana and Horvath teamed up for an 8-3 win in the No. 1 spot over Trojan and Simpson, Kochetov and Skalmerud defeated Reyes and Schujman (8-4) at No. 2, and Whitwell and Oakley got by Pena and Riso (8-6) at No. 3.
The Pirates will remain home to face Charleston Southern Saturday at the ECU Tennis Complex beginning at 1:00 p.m.
