No. 35 N.C. State Rolls Past East Carolina 6-1

RALEIGH, N.C. - N.C. State, ranked No. 35 nationally in the latest Fila Collegiate Tennis Poll, took five of six singles matches and swept doubles play to post a 6-1 non-conference victory over East Carolina Tuesday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center. The Pack's doubles tandem of James McGee and Ben Zink posted an 8-4 win over Aleksey Kochetov and Henrique Viana at the No. 1 slot before Frideric Prandecki and Daniel Schinke secured the opening tally with a similar 8-4 triumph against ECU's Matt Peeler and Brian Walters at the No. 3 position. N.C. State's Andre Iriarte and Christian Welte guaranteed the sweep with an 8-6 victory over Bryan Oakley and Stephen Whitwell. Whitwell, a freshman, picked up the Pirates' only win of the afternoon when he cruised past Schinke 6-2, 6-4 in a No. 6 singles match. N.C. State logged wins in the other five slots as McGee rolled past Kochetov (6-2, 6-3) at No. 1, Iriarte defeated Viana (6-2, 6-4) at No. 2, Welte rallied back from an opening set loss to dismiss Oakley (6-7, 6-3, 1-0/10-7) at No. 3, Zink handled Peeler (7-5, 6-1) at No. 4 and Prandecki stopped Sam McSpadden (6-3, 6-1) at No. 5. The Pirates (3-4) will play the fourth of five consecutive road matches against in-state opponents when it travels to High Point Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. meeting against the Panthers. No. 35 N.C.
