ECU Men's Tennis Blanks Christopher Newport, 7-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team earned its fifth consecutive victory Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 triumph over Christopher Newport at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center. With the win, the Pirates improved to 8-1 this season.
The match opened with doubles play with the Pirates sweeping three matches for the point. Joran Vliegen and Colin Roller teamed at No. 1 for an 8-1 victory over Chiraaq Shetty and Kyle Tobin, while Damien Brenard and John Schmitt paired up at No. 2 and shut out Will Sloan and Robbie Wagner, 8-0. Patriek Wolterbeek ad Ross Nigro completed with sweep with an 8-5 win over Joey Manilla and Lloyd Luck at the No. 3 position.
ECU won all six singles matches in straight sets without any individual losing more than three games in a set. Vliegen defeated Shetty 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 position and did Nicolas Soriano to Manilla at No. 3. Schmitt defeated Tobin 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 and Brenard handle Wagner 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4. Roller was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Sloan at No. 5 before Mario Martinez finished the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Joona Rahko.
