ECU Splits Doubleheader With GW and Barton

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- After falling 4-1 to George Washington earlier in the day, the East Carolina men's tennis team bounced back in the evening to post a 7-0 win over Barton College at the River Birch Tennis Center. The split of the doubleheader gives ECU an overall dual match record of 11-4.

Senior Joran Vliegen was the only Pirate to taste victory in the opening match against the Colonials, picking up a 6-2, 6-0 win over Francisco Dias. It was his third-straight singles win overall and seventh against a ranked opponent as Dias was No. 115 in the latest ITA Singles Rankings.

In the nightcap against Barton, the Pirates claimed all three doubles matches to secure the first point before winning each of the six singles matches in straight sets. Damien Brenard posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Rafael Ruiz in his second match of the year at the No. 1 position. Fredric Lehfeldt captured his 10th win of the spring with a 6-2. 6-1 win over Jake McCartney on court two, while Mario Martinez improved to 7-3 at the No. 3 position with 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Max Leppert. Ross Nigro remained unbeaten at the No. 4 spot with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Nick Genest before Jared Morris downed Daniel Radu at No. 5, 6-4, 6-1. Freshman Miles Holvoet won his ninth-consecutive singles match with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Jorge Pradilla on court six to close out the match.

The Pirates return to action Monday, March 10, against Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla.
