Pirates Sweep Spring Break Trip With Win Over FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The East Carolina men's tennis team picked up the second win of its spring break trip, defeating Conference USA foe Florida Atlantic, 4-2, on Thursday. The victory extended the Pirates' current winning streak to three matches as they improved to 13-4 overall this spring.

FAU (7-9) claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Nicolas Soriano and Damien Brenard lost a hard fought match at the No. 2 position, 8-6, to the team of Richard Meade and Robert Dubuque. The Owls clinched the point at the No. 3 position as Will Neuner and Stefan Burnett defeated Patriek Wolterbeek and Miles Holvoet, 8-2. ECU's top duo of Joran Vliegen and Colin Roller won their match at the No. 1 spot, taking down Sean Bacha and Gerald Nickerson, 8-4.

Vliegen opened singles play with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Neuner on court one for the Pirates' first point. Blake Gregory and Fredric Lehfeldt followed with straight set victories on courts five and six, respectively, before Soriano closed out the match from the No. 4 position by defeating Dubuque 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.

The match between Brenard and Bacha was stopped in progress with the score at 7-5, 6-5. Meade recorded the only win for FAU with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Mario Martinez at the No. 2 position.



ECU will be off the remainder of week before hosting UNCG on Thursday, March 20 at 1 p.m. and then host Presbyterian Sunday, March 23, at 12 p.m.
