GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's tennis team won the doubles point and split three singles matches to record a 4-3 win over Presbyterian College at the River Birch Tennis Center on Sunday. With the victory the Pirates improved to 14-5 overall, while the Blue Hose dropped to 19-5.
Joran Vliegen and Colin Roller team up for an 8-5 win over Joel Roberts and Rafael Berghaus at the No. 1 doubles position for their 15th win of the season. Nicolas Soriano and Patriek Wolterbeek picked up an 8-6 win from the No. 3 position, defeating Gonzalo Asis and Ryan Miller, 8-6, to give ECU the first point of the match.
After winning the opening set and losing the second set tie-breaker, Vliegen blanked Grayson Mills in the third set for a 6-1, 6-7, 6-0 victory on court one. Soriano defeated Miller 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 4 position and freshman Fredric Lehfeldt rallied from a set down to beat Diego Manzanas 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 on court five and clinch the victory.
East Carolina returns to action Friday, March 28, against College of Charleston before facing Charlotte on Saturday. Both matches will be played at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
