BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After beginning play and then enduring a one-hour rain delay, the East Carolina men's tennis team fell to UAB, 4-2, on Friday on day one of the 2012 Conference USA Shootout. Due to wet conditions only singles matches were played.
Sophomore Joran Vliegen posted a straight set victory over Danny Manlow at No. 1 singles (7-6, 6-4), while fellow classmate Mario Martinez defeated Tom Puetz at No. 6 (6-1, 6-3). UAB also won each of its four matches in straight sets.
The Pirates return to action on Saturday, March 31 against Southern Miss.
