East Carolina Slips Past Tulane, 4-3

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane and East Carolina split six singles matches but the Pirates took two of three doubles pro-sets to hand the Green Wave a 4-3 non-conference setback Thursday afternoon at the Goldring Tennis Center. East Carolina improved its dual match record to 16-4 while Tulane fell to 3-12. Tulane capured the first doubles match at No.2 before ECU claimed the point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, respectively. After Rodrigo Rappaccioli and Adam Bernstein recorded an 8-2 win over Massimo Mannino and Bryan Oakley in the No. 2 doubles match, ECU recorded 8-5 and 8-6 triumphs in the No. 1 and No. 3 flights to earn the initial point and get the Pirates off to a 1-0 advantage. Shaye Wali cruised past Jaroslav Horvath (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 1 slot, Rappaccioli defeated Henrik Skalmerud (6-1, 7-5) at No. 4 and Bernstein got past Mannino (6-3, 6-3) at No. 3 to register victories for the Green Wave. The Pirates used wins at the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 positions to claim the team victory. Stephen Whitwell posted a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Joe Young, John Schmitt shut down Coby Kramer Golinkoff 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 and Oakley dismissed Trevor Getz 7-6, 6-1 to extend their win streak to four.
East Carolina will face UAB tomorrow at 9 a.m. and will take on Southern Miss at 9 a.m. on Saturday. EAST CAROLINA 4, TULANE 3 |
