ECU Men's Tennis Bows To Tulane

HATTIESBURG, MISS. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team dropped its fourth-straight match Friday with a 4-2 loss to Tulane on the first day of the 2011 Conference USA Shootout hosted by Southern Miss.
With the loss the Pirates fell to 10-7 overall and 0-2 against C-USA foes. The Green Wave improved to 8-9 overall and picked up its first C-USA victory to advance to 1-5 against league opponents.
ECU jumped on the Green Wave early, winning the doubles point before its adversary regrouped and won four singles matches to claim victory.
The Pirates' doubles team of Joran Vliegen and Jaroslav Horvath picked up the first win of the day, taking down Idan Mark and Joe Young, 8-3 at No. 1. Henrik Skalmerud and Stian Tvedt then cruised past Shaye Wali and Rodrigo Rappaccioli, 8-4 to win the point before the third flight was completed.
In the singles portion, Tulane evened the team tally as Young made quick work of Massimo Mannino from the No. 2 court, earning the win by the score of 6-1, 6-2. Adam Bernstein then gave his team a 2-1 lead, defeating Skalmerud at the No. 6 court, 6-3, 6-2.
ECU bounced back to even the team tally after Tvedt posted a 6-3, 6-2 win against Rappaccioli at the No. 5 position, 6-3, 6-3.
Tulane would then rally off a win at the fourth court, as Holger Norregaard defeated John Schmitt 6-4, 6-3. The Green Wave then closed out the match as Wali rallied from an opening set loss to tdefeat Vliegen at flight No. 3 (6-7, 6-2, 6-3).
The Pirates return to action Saturday, April 2 against Southern Miss at 10 a.m. EDT.
