GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team won the doubles point and quickly posted two singles victories to take a 3-0 lead on its way to a 4-1 win over Campbell on Thursday at the ECU Indoor Tennis Center. With the victory ECU improved to 16-6 overall, while Campbell fell to 11-6.
The Pirates cruised to a pair of 8-3 triumphs in doubles play. Their top duo of senior Joran Vliegen and sophomore Colin Roller defeated Dominik Kaniewski and Adrien Rossignon on court one as did freshman Fredric Lehfeldt and senior Mario Martinez on court two over Fernando Guillen and Rik Van Gerwen.
Vliegen, playing in his final home match, made quick work of Guillen at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, earning his 29th singles win of the year and giving East Carolina a 2-0 lead, before Nicolas Soriano earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Steven Billington at No. 4 to make it 3-0. Campbell then picked up its first point as Kaniewski defeated Damien Bernard 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 to cut it to 3-1.
Martinez clinched the match for ECU with a hard fought three-set win over M.C. Visser, 7-5, 6-7 (2), 6-4 on court two.
East Carolina will conclude regular season dual meet play Saturday, April 12, at No. 49 Elon before heading to Tulsa for the Conference USA Championships beginning April 17.
