Pirate Men's Tennis Blanks Barton

GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina men's tennis squad posted straight-set victories in all six singles matches and earned the doubles point to post a convincing 7-0 non-conference victory over Barton Saturday afternoon at the ECU Tennis Complex.
ECU's top-seeded singles player, Jaroslav Horvath, set the tone by cruising to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ceasar Grobel, while Joran Vliegen added a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Gabe Arauio at the No. 2 slot. No. 3 seed Massimo Mannino followed by cruising past P.A. Desilets 6-1, 6-1.
Additionally, the Pirates turned in singles tallies at the No. 4, 5 and 6 positions as John Schmitt eased by Renato Mendes (6-1, 6-2), Mario Martinez defeated Diego Salinas (6-4, 6-3) and David Masciorini bested Leandro Peron (6-0, 6-2).
In doubles action, Vliegen and Horvath teamed up for an 8-2 win in the No. 1 spot over Grobel and Arauio, Skalmerud and Tvedt handed Desilets and Mendes an 8-1 setback at No. 2, while Mannino and Schmitt defeated Salinas and Peron 8-0 at No. 3.
The Pirates (12-9) will return to the courts Thursday, April 14 against UNC Wilmington at 3 p.m. at the ECU Tennis Complex.
