Pirates Blanked By UNCW, 7-0

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- UNC Wilmington's men's tennis squad swept all three doubles matches and won all six singles matches in straight sets to secure a 7-0 victory over East Carolina on Thursday at the ECU Tennis Complex. After the Seahawks' tandem of Chris Cooprider/Kinshuk Sharma opened doubles play with an 8-2 defeat of Jaroslav Horvath and Joran Vliegen. After Pedro Mol and Illia Ziamtsou defeated the duo of Massimo Mannino/John Schmitt 8-3, UNCW clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 triumph by the tandem of Felix Dominic Hodgson/Dave Thomson over Henrik Skalmerud/Stian Tvedt. In singles play, the Seahawks won all six matches in straight sets. At the top three flight positions Horvath, Vliegen and Mannino each forced a tie-breaker but were unable to capture a set. UNCW won singles flights 4-6 by a combined scored of 36-9. With the win, the Seahawks improved to 18-4 on the season while the Pirates fell to 12-10.
