TULSA, Okla. --- The third-seeded East Carolina men's tennis team was eliminated in the semifinals of the 2014 Conference USA Championship by No. 2 seed Tulane, 4-0, on Saturday. With the loss, the Pirates end the season with an overall record of 18-7.
Tulane opened the day by winning the doubles point. The tandem of Nicolas Soriano and Patriek Wolterbeek fell to the twin duo of Ian Van Cott and Alex Van Cott, 8-5, in the No. 3 draw to open the match. Joran Vliegen and Colin Roller then lost in the No. 1 spot to the No. 47 team of Dominik Koepfer and Jao Chi-Shan, 8-6.
Chi-Shan continued his strong play in singles, handing Damien Brenard and quick 6-1, 6-2 loss. Tulane's Sebastian Rey posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over ECU senior Mario Martinez in the No. 2 position. Ian Van Cott clinched a berth in the championship for Tulane with a 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) defeat of Fredric Lehfeldt.
Selections for the 2014 NCAA Division Team Championships will be made on April 29, while individual selections will be revealed on April 30.
