GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team completed a very successful weekend Sunday by claiming a trio of individual flight titles at the 2012 ECU Fall Shootout. Senior John Schmitt won Group B, freshman Colin Roller claimed Group C and freshman Blake Gregory captured Group D. The Pirates won 17 of 22 singles matches during the three-day event and also claimed victory in six of 12 doubles matches.
Schmitt opened up group play on Friday with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Richmond's Sabastien Fauchet before disposing of Hugo Ramadier of James Madison in straight sets (6-2, 6-1) on Saturday. Schmitt then outlasted the Dukes' Rob Sterling in three sets (7-6, 0-6, 10-1) to post a 3-0 tournament record.
Roller swept through Group C with a trio of straight set wins. He began the weekend with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Richmond's Will Welte and then registered a hard fought 7-6, 7-5 win over Florent Sentenac of James Madison. Roller completed the sweep by winning seven straight sets over Richmond's Aaron Wicker before Wicker retired.
Gregory was also without a blemish on his record over the weekend, winning both of his matches in straight sets. Gregory defeated James Madison's Bastien Risso (6-4, 6-2) in his opening match and then defeated Richmond's Justin Baker (7-6, 6-2) to win his group.
In doubles action, Vliegen and Roller teamed up for a pair of victories as did the duos of Sorinao and Damien Brenard along with the combo of Martinez and Ross Nigro.
