Baker And Wolterbeek Win Singles Championships At The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- East Carolina freshmen Chase Baker and Patriek Wolterbeek each claimed individual flight championships over the weekend at The Citadel Fall Shootout. Wolterbeek posted a 2-1 record to win Flight 7, while Baker won his lone match of the weekend to capture Flight 8.

Wolterbeek defeated The Citadel's John Armstrong in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) before repeating the feat against Marko Jereminov of South Carolina State (6-3, 6-2). Wolterbeek dropped his final match of the tournament in three sets (6-2, 5-7, 8-10) to Georgia Southern's Andrew Dromsky.

Baker also blanked his Citadel opponent, defeating Justin Wycoff (6-0, 6-0). Baker also team with sophomore Mario Martinez to win Doubles Flight 4 with a 2-0 record. The duo first knocked off The Citadel tandem of Armstrong/Wycoff, 8-1, then disposed of the S.C. State pair of Jereminov/Young Lee, 8-4.

The Pirates posted 12 singles victories and eight doubles triumphs during the three-day event. Freshmen Damien Brenard and Nicolas Soriano each won two matches, as did senior David Masciorini.

The Citadel Fall Invitational marked the end of fall tournament play this year.
