CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team concluded its fall season over the weekend with a very successful showing at the "Big Jim" Russell Memorial Invitational held at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina. The Pirates posted a 15-7 singles record during the three-day event and a 9-3 doubles mark.

Junior Joran Vliegen and freshman Colin Roller each posted perfect singles records and teamed up to go unbeaten in doubles action. Vliegen won the Blue Flight with a pair of three-set victories over Virginia Tech's Luca Oliveria (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) and William Parker of North Carolina (3-6, 6-2, 6-4). Roller swept through the Grey Flight with straight wins over UNC's Parker (6-0, 6-1) and James Coxe (6-3, 6-3). He also outlasted N.C. State's Trey Carter in three sets (7-6, 3-6, 6-2).

Sophomore Damien Brenard also recorded an unblemished mark. After dropping the first set of his match with the Tar Heels' Oystein Steiro, Brenard rallied to take the match 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. He then posted a 7-5, 7-5 win over Virginia Tech's Marko Lourinovic.

Blake Gregory, Mario Martinez and Ross Nigro each compiled a 2-1 record over the weekend, while Nicolas Soriano and Patriek Wolterbeek each won a match.

Vliegen and Roller defeated two pairs from UNC and another from Virginia Tech in doubles action. Wolterbeek and Nicolas Soriano also teamed up to post a 3-0 record, while Brenard and senior John Schmitt won both of their doubles matches as well.
