ECU Tops Coastal Carolina In Men's Tennis Action

Greenville, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team recorded its fourth win in its last six outings by defeating Coastal Carolina, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon at the ECU Tennis Complex. The Pirates swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles matches to improve to 5-6 this season.

The Pirates recorded straight set victories in flight 1-5 led by senior Paulo Baumer at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over David Mellis. Fellow senior Felipe Fonseca posted a 6-3, 7-5 win over Simon Taylor at No. 2 singles.

Freshman Henrique Viana competed in the most competitive match of the day, playing a pair of tie-breaker matches. Viana defeated Florentin Maynie at No. 3 singles 7-5, 7-5. Sophomore Darren Mansell and junior Nick Rose also won in straight sets at flight four and five.

East Carolina returns to action this weekend at the Conference USA Intraconference Tournament in Fort Worth, Texas.
