Pirate Netters Return to Winning Ways, Beat Charlotte 4-1

FORT WORTH, Texas -- East Carolina University's men's tennis team beat Charlotte 4-1 to wrap up play in the Conference USA Shootout, being held this weekend in Fort Worth, Texas, and New Orleans.

The Pirates, who beat Marquette on Friday before being bumped to the loser's bracket by No. 56 Louisville on Saturday, improve to 7-2 on the season. Charlotte falls to 3-7.

ECU clinched the win by taking victories in four of the top five singles flights. Charl Meyer, Paulo Baumer, Darren Mansell, and Mark Gellard all claimed wins.

Next up, East Carolina will play three midweek road games against instate opponents. The Pirates travel to UNC Greensboro for a 2 p.m. match on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they will face North Carolina A&T at 10 a.m., then venture eastward that afternoon to play Barton College at 4 p.m.
