Men's Tennis Tops Saint Louis for Ninth-Place Finish

MILWAUKEE -- East Carolina's men's tennis team finished off its 2003 season on a strong note by beating Saint Louis, 4-2, on Friday to secure ninth place in the Conference USA Championship.

The Pirates won two of their three matches in the 12-team tournament to finish the season with a 10-12 overall record.

There were no doubles matches played on Friday afternoon and the Pirates took four of the singles matches to claim the victory.

The Bilikens took the flight one singles match with Ikaika Jobe defeating Brad Sullivan, 3-6, 6-3, 11-9. Charl Meyer then came back for East Carolina to beat Lance Vodicka, 6-1, 6-4 in the flight two match.

Thomas Kwong claimed the No. 3 spot for Saint Louis, 6-2, 6-3, over Paulo Baumer.

The Pirates then had control over the rest of the matches, claiming flights four through six with wins from Edward Cooper, Felipe Fonseca, and Nick Rose, respectively.
