IRVING, Texas --- East Carolina junior John Schmitt has been named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, as voted upon by the league's men's tennis media relations contacts. Honorees must hold a minimum 3.2 GPA and have competed in at least 75 percent of their team's scheduled matches.

Schmitt is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll and has played the majority of the season at the No. 3 and 4 singles position. The Raleigh, N.C., native holds a 3.66 GPA in business and sports an 11-8 singles and 13-8 record in doubles.

The Pirates begin play at the 2012 C-USA Championships Thursday at 2 p.m. with a first round matchup against UCF.
