IRVING, Texas --- East Carolina senior Joran Vliegen has been selected the 2014 Conference USA Men's Tennis Player-of-the-Year announced league officials Thursday.

Vliegen, a native of Maaselk, Belgium, is the first East Carolina player to earn Player-of-the-Year honors and be named First Team All-Conference USA twice.

Vliegen, the top ranked player in the league at No. 26 nationally, has enjoyed one of the finest seasons in league history. He will enter the NCAA Championships later this month with a 31-7 overall singles record after compiling a 15-3 dual match record playing exclusively at No. 1 singles.

He began the 2013-14 season ranked No. 87 by the ITA and worked himself up to as high at No. 13 in late February. Vliegen posted a 16-4 record during the fall with six wins over players ranked ahead of him, winning the ITA Carolina Region singles title and advancing to the main draw of the USTA/ITA All-American Championships.

Vliegen also received first-team all-conference doubles honors paired with sophomore Colin Roller. The duo went 20-6 overall this season with a 14-4 record in dual matches this spring, playing all contests at the No. 1 position. They are the only pair in ECU history to earn all-league doubles accolades and have been recognized as such each of the last two seasons.
