Meyer Named All C-USA for Men's Tennis
05/02/2003

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Charl Meyer is East Carolina University's first-ever All-Conference USA men's tennis player as he was named as a third-team selection on Thursday, as announced by the league office in Chicago.

Meyer, a junior from Knysa, South Africa, helped the Pirates to a 10-12 record this spring, including a 2-1 mark in the Conference USA Tournament which netted the team a ninth-place finish.

Playing at flights one and two singles, Meyer posted the team's most wins and best winning percentage as he was 17-9 for the 2002-03 season and 14-6 in spring dual-match play. He had an incredible finish to his season as he won each of his last 12 matches, all in straight sets, including a perfect 3-0 mark in the C-USA Tournament.

In doubles, he paired with senior Brad Sullivan to comprise ECU's top doubles tandem which went 20-10 during 2002-03, including a 5-1 record when facing C-USA competition. Meyer and Sullivan, who were ranked in the top 10 in the region last fall, won both of their flight one doubles matches in the C-USA Tournament.

The C-USA awards were selected in a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.

Meyer is the ECU tennis program's second All C-USA selection this season as women's tennis player Lyndall Jordan was announced as a third-team selection earlier this week.
