GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The accolades continued to roll in for East Carolina senior Joran Vliegen Tuesday as he was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Region Most Improved Senior-of-the-Year, the organization announced.

The 2014 Conference USA Player-of-the-Year, Vliegen posted an overall singles record of 31-7, which included a 16-4 dual match record at the No. 1 position during the spring pushing him over 100 career singles wins. He has a career record of 108-29 entering next week's NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Singles Championships in Athens, Ga.

The native Belgian is currently No. 25 in the ITA singles rankings. He received his first career ranking in the final 2013 ratings at No. 125 and entered the 2013-14 season at No. 87 before peaking at No. 13 in February. Vliegen posted an 8-4 record against ranked opponents this season and won the 2013 ITA Carolina Region singles title.

He paired with sophomore Colin Roller throughout the season for a 20-6 overall doubles record with a 14-4 mark at the No. 1 spot during dual match play. The duo reached the round of 16 at the ITA All-American Championships and was ranked as high as 30th during the year. They became the first players in school history to participate in the NCAA Doubles Championships last season.

The 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Singles Championships will begin May 21 on the campus of the University of Georgia.
