SKILLMAN, N.J. --- East Carolina junior Joran Vliegen earned a final singles ranking of 125 to become the first player in school history to end the season ranked individually, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced Wednesday afternoon.
Vliegen and freshman Colin Roller received a final doubles team ranking of 64 becoming the first duo to be included in the final ITA rankings.
Vliegen collected 28 singles victories during the 2012-13 campaign, including a 19-2 record in dual matches, and posted a pair of wins over ranked opponents. Vliegen earned First-Team All-Conference USA accolades, leading the conference in singles victories and finishing with its second-highest winning percentage (.905).
"He played great tennis for us all spring," ECU Head Coach Shawn Heinchon said. "His leadership and performances on the court were without question that main reason we had such a successful season. He's very deserving of a final national ranking."
Roller and Vliegen were the first ECU doubles team to compete at the NCAA Championships in 2013. The duo received the C-USA automatic bid after they posted a 17-0 record at No. 1 in dual matches and was named first-team all-conference.
