Men's Tennis Wraps Up Successful Opening Weekend

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina University posted four singles wins and one doubles victory on the final day of play of the season-opening ECU Invitational. The two-day event had several matches canceled on Saturday due to rain.

The Pirates had posted five wins in singles and one in doubles on Friday. The round-robin tournament, which was not a team-scored event, included players from UNC Wilmington, Richmond, and Mount Olive.

As play continued Saturday morning, sophomore Paulo Baumer completed a three-match sweep of flight three singles by beating UNCW's Lee Bailey, 7-5, 6-2.

The Pirates also swept flight one doubles as Charl Meyer and Brad Sullivan paired up to beat Mount Olive's Juane Sculte and Christof Franzsen, 8-3, to go 2-0 for the tournament.

The Pirates will next compete in the Elon Doubles Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 19.
