TULSA, Okla. --- Senior Joran Vliegen and sophomore Colin Roller will compete at the 2013 ITA All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa this week. The pair will play as a doubles team and Vliegen will also participate in singles competition.
The singles draws were released Monday morning and Vliegen is scheduled to play his first round qualifying match today at 6 p.m. EST against an opponent to be determined.
Qualifying matches, which begin in earnest today, were preceeded by pre-qualifying matches held over the weekend. A field of 64 singles players and 32 doubles teams will then compete in the main draw on Oct. 3.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 7-10, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, NY.
Vliegen is ranked 87th in the 2013 ITA Division I Preseason Men's Singles Rankings. As a junior he finished the season ranked No. 125 after posting a 19-2 individual record, playing all 21 matches at the No. 1 position. He is 2-0 in singles play this fall.
As a doubles team, Vliegen and Roller enter the championships with a preseason national ranking of No. 30 after they finished the 2012-13 campaign ranked 64th. The duo posted a 17-1 record and became the first players in school history to reach the NCAA Championships last season.
Vliegen and Roller began their fall season last weekend at the ECU Fall Shootout, winning all three of their matches.
