Oct. 1, 2013
TULSA, Okla. - East Carolina senior Joran Vliegen advanced to the third round of the 2013 ITA All-American qualifying singles draw with two victories Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Vliegen, ranked No. 87, didn't begin tournament play until approximately 10:30 p.m. EST Monday night, but rallied from a set down to defeat Oklahoma's Nick Papac in three sets (6-7, 6-2, 6-2) after the clock had passed midnight in the East. Advancing to the second round, he faced Nebraska's Dusty Boyer and once again rallied from behind to record his second consecutive three set win (6-7, 7-6, 7-5). The two wins leave Vliegen one win away from earning a spot into the tournament's main draw.
Vliegen will face 16th-seeded Andreas Bjerrehus of Virginia Tech at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the third round. Bjerrehus is ranked No. 66 and won each of his first two matches in straight sets.
