10/03/2002

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Paulo Baumer, a sophomore from Joinville, Brazil, has been named Conference USA Men's Tennis Co-Athlete of the Month for the month of September, the league office announced today.

Baumer went unbeaten in six singles matches while playing in two fall tournaments. Each of his wins came in straight sets as he competed at flight three singles.

He is in his first season of full competition for the Pirates after ranking second on the Brazilian Junior Tennis Circuit while in high school.

Baumer shares the award with Saint Louis' Ikaika Jobe, who also went 6-0 in September.

Memphis' Sabrina Lindemann won the C-USA women's award.

The Pirate tennis team wraps up its fall tournament schedule on Oct. 25-27 when it competes at the University of South Carolina Championships.
