TULSA, Okla. - The 30th-ranked doubles team of East Carolina's Joran Vliegen and Colin Roller advanced in the main draw of the 2013 Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships Thursday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Pirate duo took down the unranked tandem of Thorsten Bertch and Hunter Nicholas from San Diego State, 8-4, in the opening first round to advance into the round of 16.

Vliegen and Roller will face the unranked UCLA duo of Marcos Giron and Mackenzie McDonald Friday at 2:30 p.m.

In singles play, Vliegen was eliminated from the Main Singles Draw earlier in the day falling to 13th-seeded Patrick Pradella of Baylor (5-7, 6-3, 1-6). It was the third time in the tournament which Vliegen had lost the opening set, but rallied to win the second. However, unlike the previous two matches he was unable to complete the comeback and win the third set.

After being ousted from the main draw, Vliegen dropped into the consolation bracket and posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over 52nd-ranked Florent Diep of Florida to earn his second win of the tournament against an opponent which is ranked ahead of him.

Vliegen continues singles play in the consolation bracket Friday at 10 a.m. EDT against the tournament's overall No. 2 seed Peter Kobelt of Ohio State. Kobelt was upset in the first round of the main draw by Jonny Wang of USC (4-6 7-6 (4) 6-3). He is ranked No. 3 in the ITA Preseason Singles Rankings.
