TULSA, Okla. - East Carolina senior Joran Vliegen suffered a straight-sets defeat and was eliminated from the consolation singles draw Saturday at the ITA All-American Championships, being held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Florida's Stephane Piro defeated Vliegen 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinal round of the consolation singles draw. Vliegen advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Ohio State's Peter Kobelt in the second round of the consolation draw Friday.
Vliegen posted an overall record of 5-2 at the event, defeating three players ranked ahead of him in the 2013 ITA Preseason Division I Singles Rankings.
Vliegen and the Pirates resume fall tournament play on Friday, Oct. 11 at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem.
