Pirates Open Play At Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. --- The East Carolina men's tennis team completed the first day of competition in the Wake Forest Invitational at the Wake Forest Tennis Center in successful fashion Friday, advancing two individuals and one doubles pair into Saturday's semifinals.
Redshirt freshman Jared Morris and freshman Miles Holvoet each stand one win away from playing in the championship match of his respective flight. Morris began the day with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Nathan Shanok of Charlotte in straight sets followed by 6-1, 6-0 triumph against Sam Lemberger of Norfolk State. Holvoet blanked Jordan Lawson of Lenior-Rhyne 6-0, 6-0 to win his quarterfinal match and advance into the next round. Junior Damien Brenard and Patriek Wolterbeek also won their first round matches, but were dismissed in the quarterfinals.
ECU advanced four partner pairs to Saturday. Brenard and junior Ross Nigro defeated the Stetson duo of Laurynas Antropikas and Cahit Kapukiran to reach the quarterfinals of their flight, while Morris and Holvoet ousted the Davidson pair of Joran Hart and Alex Howard to reach of the semifinals of their flight.
