Two Pirates Claim Flight Championships At Wake Forest Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- Freshman Miles Holvoet and redshirt freshman Jared Morris were victorious on Sunday, sweeping their respective singles flight championships at the Wake Forest Invitational. The pair of underclassmen were the only East Carolina players competing in the championship round on the final day of the tournament.
Holvoet defeated Evan Watkins of Davidson in straight sets 6-3, 7-5 to win the D1 Singles flight, while Morris also handled Elon's Chris Humphrey's in straight sets 7-5, 6-1. With his three victories over the weekend Holvoet improved to 7-0 this fall, while Morris also picked up his fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh wins of the season against just one loss.
Freshman Fredric Lehfeldt won both of his consolation matches Sunday to finish in 13th-place in the B2 Singles flight, while junior Ross Nigro won his lone match of the day to finish 11th in the C2 Singles flight.
Lehfeldt teamed with junior Patriek Wolterbeek to defeat Domonic Patrick and Juan Estenssoro of Iowa, 8-1, for seventh-place in the B Doubles flight.
The Pirates return to the courts starting Thursday, Oct. 17, at the ITA Carolina Region Championships in Cary, N.C.
