Vliegen Wins First Two Matches At ITA Carolina Regional Championships

CARY, N.C. --- East Carolina senior Joran Vliegen won his first two matches and advanced to the third round of the 2013 ITA Carolina Regional Championships Thursday at the Cary Tennis Center.

Vliegen, the No. 7 seed, defeated Wake Forest's Anthony Delcore 7-2, 6-1 in his opening round match and then quickly disposed of Charlotte's Forrest Edwards 6-1, 6-3 in the second round. He will face NC State's Simon Norenius Friday at 2 p.m. for the right to advance to the round of 16.

Vliegen will pair up with sophomore Colin Roller to begin doubles competition Friday. The fourth-seeded duo received a bye into the second round and is scheduled to open play at 11 a.m.

The tournament features players from the states of North Carolina and South Carolina. The doubles and singles regional champions will advance to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 7-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
