Vliegen's Fall Season Ends In the Round of 16

FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. --- East Carolina senior Joran Vliegen wrapped up a very successful fall season Friday, losing to fifth-seeded Gonzales Austin of Vanderbilt 6-1, 7-6 (4) in the round of 16 at the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center.

Vliegen concluded the fall campaign with a singles mark of 15-3 with six wins over opponents ranked in the top 66 of the 2013 ITA Preseason Singles Rankings. He entered the fall season ranked No. 87 and posted a 6-3 overall record against ranked foes during the semester.

Earlier this week, he was named Conference USA Men's Tennis Athlete-of-the-Month for the second time in his career after becoming the first player in ECU history to win the Carolina Region singles title and compete in the national indoors championships.
